What personal data we collect and why we collect it

At Astrodune, we collect personal data to enhance user experience, facilitate interactions between users with astrological interests, enable the creation of astrological profiles, and conduct research to explore correlations between astrological placements and personality traits, contributing to insights for users and the astrology community. Below is an overview of the types of personal data we collect and the reasons for collecting it.

Personal Data Collected

  1. Registration Data
    • Birth Data (Date, Time, Year, Birth City): This data is mandatory during registration as it allows users to create their astrological profiles. While the birth data itself is never shared or visible to other users, it is used to generate natal charts, which are shared with the community for interaction and discussion.
  2. Profile Information
    • Personal Traits and Perceptions: Users are encouraged (but not required) to provide information about their personal traits, qualities, and other optional details, such as MBTI type, occupation, and personal introductions. This data helps users share astrological insights, engage in meaningful discussions, and explore correlations between astrological placements and personality traits. Please note that any information provided in these fields is publicly visible to other registered users.
  3. Contact Information
    • Email Address: Collected to manage user accounts, send updates, and communicate with users regarding important account-related activities. We may also use email addresses to send newsletters, updates on platform activities, new user onboarding tutorials, and relevant astrological content.
  4. Transactional Data (if applicable)
    • Purchase Information: If users make any purchases on the site (e.g., premium features or services), transaction data (such as billing details) will be collected for processing the purchase.
  5. Technical Data
    • Cookies: We use only essential cookies necessary for the proper functioning and security of the website, such as maintaining user sessions and protecting forms from spam. We do not use cookies for analytics, advertising, or tracking purposes.
    • IP Address and Device Information: This technical data helps us maintain security, optimize site performance, and identify potential fraudulent activity.

Why We Collect This Data

  1. To Create and Share Astrological Profiles: The birth data (date, time, year, and city) is essential for generating natal charts. These profiles enable users to interact, share astrological insights, and explore correlations between astrological placements and personality traits with others in the community.
  2. To Facilitate Community Interactions: Information about personal traits and perceptions allows users to share their individual astrological experiences and engage with others who have similar interests. This data is also visible to other registered users.
  3. To Communicate With Users: Email addresses are used for account management and communication about platform updates, new features, and other important activities. We may also send newsletters and other relevant astrological content.
  4. To Process Transactions: If users make any purchases, their transaction data will be used to process payments and deliver purchased services.
  5. To Improve Website Functionality: Technical data, such as cookies, is collected to analyze website traffic, optimize user experience, and ensure the proper functioning of the platform.
  6. To Conduct Research and Gain Insights: We may use user data, whether in its original form or anonymized/aggregated, to conduct research on patterns between astrological placements and personality traits. This research helps improve our services and provides meaningful insights for users and the astrology community.

Legal Basis for Data Collection

We collect and process your personal data based on the following legal grounds under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): We rely on your explicit consent for the collection and use of birth data (date, time, and place of birth) to generate and display your natal chart. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account, though this will result in termination of the service as birth data is essential to its core functionality.

Performance of a Contract (Article 6(1)(b)): We process data necessary to provide the services you have requested, including account management and, where applicable, processing of transactions.

Legitimate Interests (Article 6(1)(f)): We process certain technical data — such as anonymized IP addresses, browser information, and aggregate usage statistics — based on our legitimate interest in maintaining platform security and improving service quality. We have assessed that these interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.

Legal Obligation (Article 6(1)(c)): We may process and retain certain data where required by applicable law.

Birth data may constitute sensitive data when combined with other profile information. We apply appropriate safeguards to this data and process it solely on the basis of your explicit consent.

Public Availability of Data

Please be aware that your natal chart and profile trait information will be publicly visible to all registered users of the site. This is an integral part of the platform’s social interaction features, enabling users to connect, share, and discuss astrological insights with one another.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

When visitors submit a contact form, we collect the following personal information:

  • Name (required)
  • Email address (required)
  • Message content (required)

We use this information solely to respond to inquiries and provide customer support. Contact form submissions are retained for 365 days for customer service purposes.
