Christy Gunther received her M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of South Florida in 1980 and has been in private practice since 1987. She holds licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC 732) and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS 75), and is a National Certified Counselor (NCC 35007). She became accredited through the American Federation of Astrologers as a Professional Astrologer (PMAFA) in 1987, having studied astrology since 1982. Her counseling approach draws on Cognitive-Behavioral, Gestalt, Rogerian, and Motivational Interviewing modalities. She has a special interest in depression and bereavement, and facilitated a pet loss support group as a community service for 24 years. Her practice, Stellar Counseling Services, has been based in Asheville since 1993 as part of Woodfin Wellness, a multidisciplinary center that includes psychotherapy, physical therapy, chiropractic, and rolfing. She offers astrology as a tool within counseling sessions or as standalone readings for clients not seeking psychotherapy. Astrological services include personality profiles, relationship charts, annual forecasts, and relocation charts.
