Richard Alwin Fidler began doing astrology for others as a teenager, initially calculating charts by hand before computers were commonly available. During the mid 1990s he joined the Pretoria Lodge of the Theosophical Society in South Africa, where he taught astrology and served as librarian, an experience that exposed him to a wide range of metaphysical traditions. In 1997 he began studying Vedic astrology and gradually integrated Jyotish methods into his practice alongside Western astrology. In 2011 he spent several months in India on a personal astrological pilgrimage to study Jyotish at its source, and has returned several times since as a conference speaker and organizer. In 2015 he organized the first Astrology Restored conference in Cape Town together with Ana Carrapichano, featuring Robert Hand as keynote speaker. He has served as chairperson of the Cape Astrology Association and on the organizing committee for Krishnamurti Institute of Astrology conferences in India. His writing has appeared in The Mountain Astrologer, the Astrological Journal, and other publications, including a mention in Business Insider. Beyond consultations, he teaches courses and workshops on topics including aspects and geometric astrology, mundane astrology, secondary and solar arc progressions, eclipses, and astrological counselling, often combining Western and Vedic methods within a single course structure.
