Zane grew up in Philadelphia and began studying astrology in early 1969 while at Pennsylvania State University. In 1978 he founded the Association for Studying Chiron (ASC) to collect international research on the newly discovered body, and published the first Chiron Aspectarian in 1981. He has authored two of the most widely referenced books on Chiron, Essence and Applications: A View From Chiron and Chiron - Healer and Wholemaker, and has written extensively on the wider family of Centaur bodies, including Pholus, Nessus, and Chariklo. His work has been published in Dell Horoscope, The Mountain Astrologer, and Planet Earth magazine, and referenced in numerous other astrology books. He runs the long-standing research site Chiron and Friends, co-founded the Chariklo School of Archetypal Astrology with Lynette Malone where he teaches, and relocated from the United States to Western Australia in 2011.
