Short answer: Most professional astrologers charge somewhere between the equivalent of $125 and $300 for a single reading. In the United States the median is around $200; in the United Kingdom it’s around £120. Prices vary widely based on the astrologer’s experience, the length of the session, and the type of reading, ranging in this data from under $20 to nearly $1,000.
This report is based on the real, listed prices of 167 astrologers in the Astrodune directory who publish their rates, spanning 16 countries. It’s one of the few pricing snapshots online built from a large current sample rather than a single old estimate.
Why it’s hard to find a straight answer online
Ask “how much does an astrology reading cost” and most sources repeat the same older industry estimate, often quoted as roughly $70–200. That figure has been copied across the web for years, but it no longer reflects what practising astrologers actually charge, and it was never based on a broad, current sample of published rates.
The prices below are drawn directly from astrologers’ own profiles as of 2026. Where the older estimate topped out around $200, today’s data shows the median US reading sitting near that ceiling, with experienced astrologers routinely charging more.
What astrologers actually charge in 2026
Here’s what the listed prices look like by region, shown in each region’s own currency so nothing is distorted by exchange-rate conversion.
| Region | Astrologers | Median single reading | Typical listed range |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 105 | ~$200 | $135–$275 |
| United Kingdom | 29 | ~£120 | £93–£150 |
| Australia | 8 | ~AU$200 | AU$90–AU$300 |
“Typical listed range” shows the median low and median high price astrologers advertise, so it reflects the spread you’ll commonly see, not the extremes. In the US, half of all astrologers price a single reading somewhere between roughly $140 and $300.
Source: Astrodune astrologer directory, July 2026. Figures are median values from astrologers who publish pricing: 105 US, 29 UK, and 8 Australian profiles. The Australian sample is small, so treat that row as indicative rather than definitive. Prices are advertised list prices, not transaction records.
Why prices vary so much (from under $20 to nearly $1,000)
The single biggest thing to understand about astrology pricing is that “a reading” isn’t one product. The range in this data runs from about $16 at the low end to over $900 at the top, and most of that spread comes down to a few factors:
Length and depth. A 30-minute focused reading and a two-hour full-life natal consultation are priced very differently. Many higher numbers are multi-session packages, not a single sitting.
Type of reading. A quick solar-return or transit check costs less than an in-depth natal analysis, relationship synastry, or a rectification (reconstructing an unknown birth time), which is labour-intensive and priced accordingly.
Format. Live video or in-person sessions typically cost more than written or recorded readings.
Experience and reputation. More established astrologers command higher fees, though as the next section shows, the premium is smaller than you might expect.
Country and market. Local purchasing power shapes pricing, which is exactly why the table above separates regions rather than blending them.
The practical takeaway: before comparing two prices, check that you’re comparing the same thing. A $90 reading and a $300 reading are often different products, not the same product at different prices. On each astrologer’s profile, you can see what a given price actually includes.
Do you pay more for experience?
Somewhat, but less than you’d think. Astrologers with 30 or more years of experience charge a median of around $208 in the US, compared with roughly $175–180 for those with less experience.
That’s a real premium, but a modest one. The clearest conclusion from the data is that price is not a reliable shortcut for judging experience or quality. Plenty of highly experienced astrologers charge mid-range fees, and a high price doesn’t guarantee a veteran. Reviews, specialties, and credentials tell you far more than the number alone.

Fixed price or price range?
Most astrologers don’t advertise a single flat fee. In this data, 80% list a price range while only 20% quote one fixed price.
That’s because a range usually reflects a menu: a shorter reading at the low end, a comprehensive multi-session package at the high end. When you see a range on a profile, it’s a signal to ask which service sits where, rather than assuming you’ll pay the midpoint.

Do Vedic and Western astrologers charge differently?
There’s a slight difference. Among US-based astrologers, Vedic practitioners show a median around $224, compared with about $196 for Western-tradition astrologers.
The gap is small and the Vedic sample here is limited, so treat this as a suggestive pattern rather than a firm rule. It may partly reflect the fact that Vedic readings more often centre on detailed predictive and remedial work. What counts as a fair price, and how to judge value
Since price alone tells you little, here’s what actually determines whether a reading is worth the fee:
- Session length. A $200 reading that runs 90 minutes is very different value from a $200 reading that runs 30.
- What you keep. Ask whether you get a recording, written notes, or a chart to take away.
- Follow-up. Some astrologers include a short follow-up message or Q&A; others charge separately.
- Specialisation. An astrologer who specialises in exactly your question (career, relationships, timing) may be worth more to you than a generalist at the same price.
- Reviews. Past clients are the best signal of whether the fee matched the value delivered.
A useful rule: don’t shop for the lowest number, shop for the best fit between what you need and what the astrologer actually delivers for the price.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some astrology readings so expensive? Higher fees usually reflect longer sessions, deeper analysis, multi-session packages, or an astrologer’s experience and reputation. A $500 reading is often a comprehensive multi-hour or multi-session consultation rather than a single short sitting.
Are cheap astrology readings worse? Not necessarily. Price is not a reliable indicator of quality or experience in this data. A lower-priced astrologer may simply offer shorter sessions, work in a lower-cost market, or be building their client base. Reviews and specialties tell you more than price.
Does the price include a recording or notes? It depends on the astrologer. Some include a recording or written summary; others offer it as an add-on. Always check what’s included before booking, since it significantly affects the value.
How long is a typical astrology reading? Most single readings run between 30 and 90 minutes. Comprehensive natal consultations often last an hour or more, while quick focused readings can be shorter. Length is one of the biggest drivers of price.
Should I tip an astrologer? Tipping is not expected in professional astrology. The listed fee is the full price. If you want to show appreciation, a review is more valued than a tip.
