Alphee Lavoie began practicing astrology professionally in 1965 after moving from northern Maine to Connecticut to study engineering. In 1977 he founded the Astrological Institute of Research (AIR) in West Hartford, the first astrology school in Connecticut, and serves on the Advisory Board of Kepler College. In 1982 he launched AIR Software, a worldwide astrology software company known for pioneering the use of artificial intelligence in astrological tools, including the award-winning Market Trader financial astrology software. He holds NCGR Level IV certification in Counseling and Rectification and served as NCGR Research Director and board member for 12 years, as well as on the AFAN board. In 2002 he founded the AstroInvestigators research group, which conducts ongoing astrological research with astrologers worldwide. He has lectured at UAC, NCGR, ISAR, AFA, and OPA conferences.
