About
Jim Sher is the founder of the Sher Institute of Astrology and Metaphysics in Los Angeles, California, and has been practicing and teaching astrology for over 45 years. He holds a Master's in Social Work from the University of Texas (1972), followed by post-graduate training in Jungian theory and practice, and worked for many years as a therapist and counselor specializing in family and relationship counseling, mental health, drug and alcohol treatment, and domestic violence. After discovering astrology outperformed standard psychological tests for understanding personality and behavior, he integrated it into his practice beginning in the late 1970s. In 1998, he became the first Executive Director of Kepler College in Seattle - the first degree-granting astrology college in the United States. He moved to Los Angeles in 1999 and founded the Sher Institute in 2000. The Institute teaches astrology, metaphysics, and meditation from a transpersonal and spiritual perspective. Consultations include natal chart analysis, transits, progressions, solar returns, and Saturn returns, with each chart treated as a map of potentials to support personal evolution and self-awareness. His book Astrology as a Spiritual Path: Birth of the New Human was published in 2025.
